British Chartist literature has been treated for long as an accessory to Chartist Movement in the academic circle both at home and abroad. As a matter of fact, it does not simply spread and reflect Chartist Movement passively, with its clear tendency as such. Instead, it involves itself in the formation of values of the Movement. The problem with the "accessory view" is that it conceals the complexity of Chartist literature' s inner structure. Examining the British literature as a whole and especially in terms of the relation between Chartist literature and romantic poetry and popular literature, we find that the Chartist literature functions as a literature movement with its own development logic and its inner structure. Moreover, the Chartist literature helps to initiate and deepen the Chartist Movement and also interacts with the political ideology.
