Kafka experienced in-depth absurdity during his whole life, thus this became one of his favourite aesthetic styles. His novel Starving Artist depicts an artist who sacrifies his own life for his frenzied pursuit of art in a starving performance, and eventually proves his own value. Absurdity in this short but thought-provoking novel is manifested by contradictions and conflicts between the audience, guard, manager, leopard and the artist himself. This fable-like story not only displays the writer's aesthetics of absurdity, but also uncovers contemporary people's irrational existing circumstance and sense of loneliness in their living.
