Objective : To evaluate the efficacy of auricular point sticking for preventing constipation after TUPKP under the meridian flowing theory. Methods : Seventy-one cases after TUPKP were randomized to two groups: 36 cases in the experimental group were prescribed normal nursing and auricular point sticking ( taking the acupoints of constipation point, large intestine, rectum, subcortex, three-Jiao and so on ), another 35 cases in the controlling group were prescribed normal nursing and auricular point sticking ( taking the the same acupoints ). The difference between the two was the time of pressing the auricular point. The experimental group was designated three time points that were 06: 30( Maoshi ), 14: 30( Weishi ), 21:30 (Haishi)and the controlling group was designated another three time points that were 11:00 ( Wushi ), 16:30 ( Shenshi ), 19:30 ( Xushi ). Constipation occurring or not, the score of constipation, the time of first defecation and bladder spasm were evaluated and recorded. Results : The time of first defecation in the experimental group ( 49.7 ± 15.68 ) h was obviously lower than that in the control group ( 60.4 ± 15.16 ) h (P〈0.01). The constipation score in the experimental group (5.1 ± :2.81 )was obviously lower than that in the control group ( 7.1 ± 1.93 ) ( P〈0.05 ). Conclusion : Auricular point sticking under meridian flowing theory can improve the effect of preventing constipation around the operation to BPH, and is worthy of promotion.
