摘要
本文首先讨论了拟出台的"英语退出高考"等英语教育政策背后的一些考虑,试图澄清英语"有用"与"无用"之争论中的一些片面认识。在此基础上,进一步探讨基础教育阶段实施英语教育的意义。中小学生学习英语的意义是多方面的,而不仅仅是掌握一种作为交流工具的语言。简单地从英语的实用性来判断英语教育的意义是不可取的。
This paper first refutes some of the claims behind recently released polices regarding English education such as removing English from gaokao. Then it discusses the major arguments in the debate about the usefulness of English and English learning. Based on these discussions, the paper outlines the value of English education for primary and middle school students. The paper argues that the value of learning English is multifold rather than just learning a communication tool. The value of English education should not be judged only in terms of its practical utility.
