村民自治作为当代中国农村治理的重要方式,也是现阶段中国社会民主的主要体现形式之一。村民自治是在我国广大农民群众积极发挥主观能动性,共同探索出的自我管理的方式,具有自发性和自我组织的特点,充分体现农民的意愿,并在国家的重视和支持下,在全国范围内得到普遍建立,经过三十多年的建设与发展,对我国农村地区的经济、社会、文化发展起到了极大的促进作用。目前,村民自治在实际运行中,只有将在基本制度和民主意识上存在着许多问题得到解决,才能使中国农村地区的基层民主更加健康的发展。

The villagers＇ autonomy is one of the most important ways of government regulations, and an important embodiment of social democracy in China at present stage in China. Villager autonomy is the broad masses of farmers in our country actively subjective initiative into full play in order to explore ways of self - management. It is showing two characteristics, which is spontaneous and self - organized. Under the government＇ s attention and support, it has been generally established nationwide, after 30 years of construction and development. Villagers＇ Autonomy has played a great role in promoting in economic, social and cultural development of China＇ s rural areas. Currently, in the time of actual operation of the villagers＇ autonomy, we find only in the basic sense of democratic institu- tions, many problems could be resolved in order to make grassroots democracy in rural China in to more healthy development.
