Reading Fluency and Its Implications on the Teaching of College English

英语阅读流畅性既包括了我们最为关注的对文本的理解,还含纳了对阅读速度、信息处理的自动化和阅读量等的要求。因此,我们必须摒弃过去单纯重视词汇、语法而忽视对篇章理解、轻松阅读的认识,利用广泛阅读、重复阅读、速读等多种方式来训练学生的阅读流畅度,提高大学英语教学效果。

English reading fluency includes not only text comprehension but also other requirements like reading rates, automatic information processing and reading amounts, etc. Based on the comprehensiveness of the concept, we need to change the previous view of simply emphasizing vocabulary and grammar whereas overlooking discourse understanding and reading for enjoyment. Therefore, col- lege English teachers can employ various methods like extensive reading, repeated reading and speed reading to train students＇ reading fluency and finally improve the effects of English teaching.
