Two Chinese Versions of Jane Eyre: A Comparative Study Based on Domestication and Foreignization from the Sentence Level

通过对比英国著名小说Jane Eyre的两个风格迥异的中译本,探讨译者用以指导各自翻译实践的策略,重点比较归化、异化在句子翻译层面上的不同应用。在比较译作的过程中,发现两位译者采用了截然不同的策略进行翻译,即在把握归化、异化的"度"的方面各有偏重。这是导致两部译作风格各异的重要原因,也是文学翻译中值得探讨的理论问题。

By comparing two quite different Chinese versions of the famous British novel Jane Eyre, this paper ex- plores different translation strategies, especially discusses how domestication and foreignization are employed pro- portionally from the sentence level. By comparative analysis of the two translation versions, it turns out that the two translators deal with the sentence translation with completely different translation strategies. That is, the translators explore domestication and foreignization differently, which is an important reason for the different styles of the two Chinese versions and also a theoretical issue worthy of further exploration in literary translation.
