Coercion Rules and Conditions for Verbs' Entrance into Ditransitive Construction

Combining Frame Semantics with Construction Grammar and Cognitive Grammar as its analytical frame- work, and adopting a multi-perspective and a cross-linguistic approach, this paper attempts to explore the rules of coercion underlying ditransitive constructions and the conditions under which verbs can be fused with the construc- tion. It proposes that the cross-linguistic distinctions exist in terms of coercion rules, thus, whether a verb can enter the construction is determined by the standard of compatibility between the verb＇ s participant roles and the con- struction＇ s argument roles.
