From Briskness to Badness: Research on the U.S. Advanced Technology Products Trade

美国原是高技术产品的头号贸易大国,80年代以来走向下坡.出口值占制造业比重,从1970年的28%,降到1985年的23%;年贸易顺差从70年代末达236亿美元,降到目前仅40亿美元,而日本、西欧国家出口则增加.本文探讨美高技术产品贸易由盛转衰的原因,并论述美为扭转局面所作的努力和前景.

The Unitad States was originally the number one traoe power in high-tech products. However, since the 1980s it has been on the decline where the proportion of export value in manufacturing industry fell from 28% in 1970 to less than 23% in 1985, and the annual trade surplus decreased from not more than $23.6 billion in the seventies to the present $4 billion only. On the other hand, Japanese and European exports have increased.This paper studies the cause of the prosperity and decline of the US high-tech products and reviews the efforts with which the US has tried to bring about a radical change in the situation and at the same time predicts its prospects.
