娱乐是西部各民族社会生活的本质,相对于东部民族而言,更具有狂欢的特性。娱乐在西部各民族社会中占有极其重要的地位,因为这些少数民族都处于祖国的边疆,或在荒山幽谷间,或在雪域荒原,生活闭塞,交通也极不便利,在此种条件的限制下,若没有各种娱乐来调剂生活,那么苦闷、单调的日子是很难度过的。另一方面,这些少数民族的男女都富有歌唱文艺的天分,所以总能在平淡的生活中活出其特有的精彩,以各种娱乐方式来舒解胸中的苦闷,消除疲劳,促进工作效率。尤其值得提出的是,各样娱乐方式特别是唱歌,更是融合了西部民族男女之间的情感,成为他们之间爱情的媒介。娱乐体现着这些民族自身的民族精神,通过娱乐人们的身心,对凝聚族群和教化后代起着巨大作用。

As the essence of all western nationality＇s social life; entertainment there has more revelry characteris- tics than that of eastern nationality. Entertainment is rather important to western nationality because they live on the frontier of the country, either in the deep mountains, or in the places full of snow, or on desolate plateau, and the transportation there is not as convenient as eastern areas. In this terrible situation, if there is no entertainment, it is difficult to live through the depressed and dull days. From the other aspect, people of the minority nationality are all gifted with sing ability, so they can enjoy many kinds of entertainments and improve work efficiency and e- liminate fatigue by this. Every kinds of entertainment, especially songs, make people more passionate, and become bridge of youngster＇s love. And also, nationality spirit is embodied in these entertainments, which is also meaning- ful to integrating the nationality and teaching later generations.
