古琴艺术建立起了自己的一套完整的记谱法、弹奏法、指法、乐律、美学等体系,故又有"琴道"或"琴学"之称。古琴不仅仅是用于演奏的一件乐器,可以说是集中国传统音乐、文学艺术之大成者,是中国传统音乐美学思想中孤寂黯淡的"雅"的审美倾向的代表。

Guqin, the culmination of Chinese traditional music, literature and art, is not only a musical instrument used for playing, but also the representative of the lonely and bleak ＂elegance＂, the aes- thetic tendency in the aesthetic ideology of Chinese traditional music. Having set up a complete set of music notation, playing method, fingering and aesthetics system, Guqin art is also be called ＂Qin Dao＂ or ＂Studies of Qin＂.
