On the arena of contemporary poetry after World War Ⅱ, New York School is an important branch, in which Kenneth Koch is a central figure. Koch is often viewed as a comic poet and his seeming absurdity and brashness are contradictory to the prevalent taste of critics. Up until now his works have rarely been studied. However, under the background of the dominance of Eliot and New Criticism, Koch's works reflect the spirit of his time and show the "complex of anxiety" among new poets. Paro- dy, an technique often employed by Koch, has already demonstrated its vitality in postmodern contexts, which testifies Koch's precedent creativity.
