自《春秋》中出现有关赵氏家族的记载,"赵氏孤儿"的故事历经无数文人、艺人的改编和演绎,迄今已有多个版本。日本净琉璃歌舞伎《菅原传授手习鉴》在很大程度上借鉴了中国"赵氏孤儿"故事的题材,吸收了中日两国中有关"赵氏孤儿"历史典籍的精华,并受到日本本土文化的影响。《赵氏孤儿》在欧洲的传播也对日本产生了一定的间接影响。近年来,《赵氏孤儿》这部传统戏剧及其故事也逐步通过影视、网络等多种手段继续传往日本。
