Deconstruction of Patriarchal Power ——On“Laughter”in Angela Carter's The Magic Toyshop

Angela Carter is a well-known British writer. Her early work The Magic Toyshop is rich in carnivalesque elements, which helps to deconstruct the male power in patriarchal society. By analyzing the carnivalesque laughter of Finn and Melanie, this paper points out that their laughter degrades Uncle Philip＇ s status in family, decrowns ＂Zeus＂, and deconstructs Uncle Philip＇s male power.
