Lin Daiyu is abandoned by Grandma Jia and not allowed to marry Jia Baoyu because of her deteriorated health and anxiety laden mind. Wang Xifeng, who once was a supporter of the Marriage Commitment between Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu, now follows the will of Grandma Jia and changes her mind to endorse the arranged marriage between Jia Baoyu and Xue Baochai. Under Grandma Jia’s suggestion, Wang Xifeng comes up with a secret plan that helps the Jia family surreptitiously substitute Xue Baochai for Lin Daiyu at Jia Baoyu’s wedding, bringing the love between Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu to a tragic end,which never ceases to plunge readers into deep emotions.
