《红楼梦》中,曹雪芹对"菊花诗会"的安排布置煞费苦心,从细致的题目推敲、限韵予否的定夺、命题与个人自由的契合,到场面如何安排、吃什么、请谁来,都搞得有板有眼,条条是道;且曹氏对这里每一步骤的描述又笔墨细腻、关怀备致、有突出、有概述,井井有条。"菊花诗会"上,作者重点的对几位主要人物的描写也下了非凡功夫:安排错落有致,内质障显明晰;局部结构更是开头引人、包容丰厚、结尾奇谲。

In A Dream in Red Mansions, Cao Xueqin made a deliberate arrangement of the chrysanthemum poem gathering, putting in order matters such as topic, rhyme, assignment or free choice of topics, scene setting, foods, and guests. Cao Xueqin gave detailed descriptions to every step with emphases and generalizations. Extraordinary efforts were taken to present the major characters at the gathering to show their personalities. The partial structures were treated so as to create an alluring introduction and a peculiar conclusion.
