Domesticating and Foreignizing Translation of English Idioms Based on Cross-cultural Communication

习语是一个民族的文化瑰宝,经历了几千年的发展和积淀,因而其形成的文化背景十分丰富,在语义、结构和单词方面也各具特点。在跨文化交际中,不同的文化背景和文化认知对英语习语的翻译均产生影响,可以结合归化翻译和异化翻译理论,探索英语习语翻译的新途径。

Idioms are the cultural treasure of a nation, which have experienced thousands of years of development and accumulation. They are rich in the formation of the cultural background, which resulted in their distinct charac- teristics in meanings, structures and words. In cross-cultural communication, different cultural background and cul- tural cognition have influences on the translation of English idioms. This article aims to explore a new way to the translation of English idioms under the translation theory of domestication and foreignization.
