Fret is a common auxiliary ornament often used on the edge decoration of the brick, wood and stone sculptures in Huizhou -style buildings. It is not only characterized by concise lines and alternation between reality and fantasy, but also contains the philosophical sense of the unity of opposites and the spirituality of transparency. This paper explores the aesthetic value of it, which helps explain why the old Fret can stand the test oftime. The purpose of the research is to better apply Fret and its characteristics to the modern design.
