通过对鲁本·A·布福德·梅博士撰写的《穿越篮圈的生活:高中篮球、种族与美国梦》一书进行评析,尝试厘清美国篮球梦的轮廓与文化精神,以期为中国体育梦的社会实践提供参考借鉴。该著作运用民族志研究方法,对美国佐治亚州东北地区的一支高中男子篮球队展开深入的个案研究,力求理解美国高中篮球、种族与梦想之间的关系与发生机制。美国篮球梦的基本轮廓,名义上是宣扬只要勤奋努力便能获得更好的生活,但内质上,却呈现积极对待生活并享受生活过程的观念和态度。美国篮球梦的文化精神,在自由主义和个人主义的国家制度层面上,展现"舍我其谁"般的生活信心、男性气概和无畏的勇气;在个人成功与价值实现的层面上,展现"永不言败"的生活追求、精神气质和梦想的力量。

This thesis analyzes the book ＂Living through the Hoop： High School Basketball, Race, and the A merican Dream＂ written by Doctor Reuben A. Buford May. It attempts to clarify the outline and cultural spirit of the American basketball dream and provides references for the social practice of the Chinese sports dream. The book uses the ethnography research method to conduct in-depth case study on a high school men＇s basketball team in northeast Georgia, USA, striving to understand the relationship among the United States high school basketball, race and dreams, as well as the mechanism. The basic outline of the U.S. basketball dream nominally advocates that as long as people work hard, they will get a better life, which presents in its essence of ideas and attitudes of treating life positively and enjoying the process of life. On the national system level of liberalism and individual ism, the cultural spirit of U. S. basketball dream has presented the confidence of ＂if I can＇t, who can？, which is a kind of masculinity and undaunted courage. On the level of personal success and value realization, it has showed the life pursuit and spiritual temperament of ＂never give up＂, as well as the power of dreams.
