The view that Chinese literature has its origin in "short lyrical poems" and Western literature has its origin in " long narrative poems" has held sway for a long time, but it is a faulty view. Behind it lurks the shadow of " aesthetic nationalism". Facts have shown that the argument of a " lyrical tradition" put forward by scholars successively since the last century has failed to fully capture the Chinese artistic spirit. It will help us better understand the significance of " poetic narratives" to "universal literary views" to reassert this proposition from the angle of aesthetic ethics.
