Robert Creeley,representative of Proj ective Verse,believes that emotion is of critical signif-icance to poetry.In the history of English poetry,the Romantic poets represented by Wordsworth and the Confessional poets represented by Lowell both stress the importance of emotion in poetry.A comparison of Creeley＆#39;s mode of turning out emotion with Wordsworth＆#39;s and Lowell＆#39;s shows that unlike Wordsworth, who expresses emotion subj ectively after tranquil recollection,Creeley betrays symptoms of emotion spon-taneously,and that unlike Lowell,who expresses emotion generally and straightforwardly in rhetoric lan-guage,Creeley presents exact and minute feelings by such means as the rhythm,sound,and word-forma-tion of language itself.The difference in the mode of turning out emotion between Creeley,Wordsworth and Lowell reflects different approaches to emotion between the Proj ective,the Romantic and the Confes-sional poets.
