On LIN Yutang's Cultural Identity and Translation Behavior:A Case Study of His Translation of Six Chapters of a Floating Life

林语堂是20世纪中国翻译史上一位杰出的翻译家。引入文化身份研究方法,分析了林语堂的文化身份构建。以其英译《浮生六记》的翻译行为为个案分析,研究林语堂的文化身份对其翻译动机和翻译策略的影响,指出文化身份研究为全面客观评价林语堂及其翻译作品提供了一个新的视角。

LIN Yutang was an outstanding Chinese translator in the twentieth century. By introducing the study of cultural identity,the construction of LIN Yutang＇s cultural identity is analyzed in this paper. Its influence on his translation motivation and translation strategies is explored with a case study of his translation of SIX Chapters of a Floating Life. It is pointed out that the study of cultural identity helps appraise LIN Yutang and his translation from a new pompoctive.
