The historic buildings in St,Petersburg City in Russia are well known across the world. In order to preserve and develop the historic and cultural environment, the designers and planners successfully rebuilt or expanded some historic buildings by means of these strategies, namely, replacing wood structure by steel frame, keeping unanimous stand face on outside between the building and the historic buildings, maintaining the accordant style between surrounding and historic building as well as exerting the new function on the historic buildings, et al. Analyzing their successful experience could orient even direct us to preserve historic buildings in our Country.
