桂馥是清代著名学者、文字学家、书法家、篆刻家,《说文》四大家之一。他嗜好金石,精于篆隶,善治《说文》,并以此为基础,广交天下学人。其中一位忘年之交,就是大名鼎鼎的阮元。二人切磋问学,诗作唱和,留下了很多美好回忆。与阮元的交游,桂馥一方面扩大了自己的交谊范围,一方面提高了自己的学术造诣。

Gui Fu, a distinguished scholar, paleographer, calligrapher, seal cutter and one of the four prestigious experts in Origin of Chinese Characters in the Qing Dynasty, was addicted to epigraphy, skilled at seal script and official script, and well - known for his research on Origin of Chinese Characters.
