Based on the core uses of the present past tense and now as an adverb, and via abundant examples from standard English dictionaries, the article points out a defect in the design of the four answers in multiple choice 24 in the 2013 College Entrance English Examination Paper （National Paper I） which leads to two answers to one question, and offers a solution to the problem by changing the adverbial of time.
