博学审问、取精用弘——美国汉学家康达维教授的辞赋翻译与研究

康达维教授是当代西方最有影响力的汉学家之一,四十余年来致力于《昭明文选》的翻译与研究,目前已出版《文选》辞赋部分的英文译本,及大量相关研究著作和论文。为准确翻译辞赋,他不但精研包括文字、音韵、训诂在内的传统小学与文章学,更对与文学相关的政治、历史、天文、地理、交通、岁时、风俗、博物等中国古代诸多学科门类,作广泛地探求与精深地思考,由此成就了他博学审问、取精用弘的治学特点,在中国中古文学尤其是辞赋学的传播与研究中取得卓异的成就。

Professor David R. Knechtges, one of the most influential and reputed sinologists in contempo- rary western world, had dedicated more than forty years to translate and study Zhao Ming Wen Xuan, and pub- lished three volumes translation of Fu in Wen Xun, as well as lots of monographs and papers. In order to accu- rately translate Fu, he studied Chinese traditional philology, phonology and semantics, as well as Chinese ancient politics, history, astronomy, geography, transportation, customs, and so on, which had formed his particular research style, that is, learning extensively and inquiring thoroughly, extracting the essentials from large amount of materials. With useful methodology and helpful inspirations, He had made great achievements in Chinese ancient literature, especially on Fu, propagations and studies.
