Carson McCullers lived in the mid--20th century when existentialism thrived. Her works was influenced greatly by existentialism, especially by S. Kierkegaard＇ s existential and religion theory. This thesis mainly probes into the reason why Carson McCullers received existentialism, and illustrates the influence that S. Kierkegaard has exercised on Carson McCullers＇ s works and thinking. Then I concluded that Carson McCullers＇ s works focused on human existential predicament and explored humanism through the grotesque style of writing.
