"Appropriateness" is the stable and proper nature that things possess. Teaching media is the medium of the teaching activities and an essential element for promoting learning. To select the appropriate teaching medium is an important faetor to ensure the effectiveness of foreign language listening teaching. "Appropriateness" is regarded as the theoretical framework that guides the technical process of selecting media as to how to build the optimal model between different media prototypes and teaching efficiency. With the principle of appropriateness, the mainstream teaching media such as language-learning computer terminals, multimedia teaching systems, language labs and FM radio listening systems could be matched to the individualized teaching requirements. This would be analyzed by the means of dynamic multi-dimensional systematic cost estimation method in aspects such as the cost, the efficiency and the difference of performances and thus this would not only satisfy the needs of foreign language listening teaching, but also highlights that the difference of "valuable" performances (Pw) (the ratio is 74:18:2:1) among the FM radio system, the multimedia teaching system, the computer network learning terminal, and the language laboratory. Based on this view, FM radio system would better reflect the global optimization principle of "appropriateness" in foreign language listening teaching.
