Based on the response to the theoretical critique of Western Green Trends on historical materialism, Ecological Marxism started the ecological perspective of historical materialism. Ecological Marxists criticized capitalism from the viewpoints of ecology, technology and values, and presented their theory of ecological governance, which formed their systematic ecological theory and modernist critical theory. These theories have made vital theoretical contributions to the enrichment and development of historical materialism, and offered valuable ideological resources for both theoretical studies and construction practices of ecological civilization.
