Taiwan root-seeking literature boomed respectively in the 1940s, 1950-60s, 1960-70s, with different focus on cultural psychological demands due to different historical excitation force. Revie wing from the overall cultural psychological level, the three booms of Taiwan root-seeking literature is closely related to Taiwan Residents binary division of the internal body: the first boom originated from the main body division between Taiwan Residents and Japanese, the second boom stemmed from the main body division be tween Taiwan Residents and mainlanders, and the third boom emanated from the main body division between Tai- wanese and westerners. The binary division of the three booms varies but all leads to the loss of Taiwan Residents roots, which is the very premise of seeking roots. The three booms indicate that Taiwan Residents longed for ma- ternal culture identity and seek for spiritual being, i. e. , going to the modern times without losing the self.
