“Unforgettable Impressions”

'In 1979 two Chinese scientists joined our institute in the framework of the historical CAS-MPG agreement.This marked the beginning of a longstanding fruitful collaboration.Many visitors followed and contributed to our scientific programs.–My first visit to China took place in 1981–with stays at CAS institutes in Bejing,Nanjing,Shanghai and Kunming,where I received unforgettable impressions

Many visitors followed and contributed to our scientific programs. - My first visit to China took place in 1981 - with stays at CAS institutes in Bejing, Nanjing, Shanghai and Kunming, where I received unforgettable impressions ofthe daily life and the scientific work at the institutes. At that time the traces of the so- called ＇Cultural Revolution＇ were still highly visible. During four more visits to China - the last one at the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the CAS-MPG rela- tions- I witnessed the enormous progress in many aspects of people＇s life and in sci- ence and technology - to which the CAS has contributed much.＂
