A Study of Translatology Value from Quine's "Indeterminacy of Translation"

蒯因在《语词和对象》一书中提出了著名的"翻译不确定性"论题,并从意义的不确定性、指称的不可测知性、本体论的相对性以及整体论思想等几个方面阐释了这一论题的哲学内涵。该论题对于译学研究同样具有理论指导价值,即翻译在本体论上具有不确定性,在认识论上具有整体性,在方法论上具有多元性,这也为译学研究打开了新的缺口和通道。

Quine proposed a famous topic of ＂indeterminacy of translation＂ in his book Word and Object, and elaborated the philosophical connotation of this topic from indeterminacy of meaning, unpredictability of reference, relativity of ontology and holism. It can be found through analysis that Quine＇s topic has a theoretical guidance value on translation studies, which means that translation is uncertain in Ontology, holistic in Epistemology and diverse in Methodology. Hence, it opens a new gap and channel for translation studies.
