The paper reviews the development process of information retrieval course, expounds the connotation of information re- trieval course and the meaning of offering it under network environment, and introduces achievements of improving teaching of informa- tion retrieval course. It points out that the development direction of information retrieval course is adjusting teaching content and strengthening information literacy education; reforming teaching method and means, improving students＇ self-learning ability in network era; integrating study with application, cultivating students＇ innovation consciousness in practice; reforming teaching quality evaluation system, taking innovation as important evaluation index.
