Cien anos de soledad, written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, is one of the most important works in his life. The town Macondo was originally a primitive society like Shangri-La. However, since new culture came from the outside world, Macondo was unexpectedly thrown into the modern culture. The conflicts and discomfort between the two cultures made this traditional and solitary town even poorer. Under the unbearable pressure of ignorance and poverty, Macondo eventually disappeared in hurricane. The author used the original peaceful life to set off the cruel social reality in Latin America, probing the reason and solution to such henomenon, and en-thusiastically study the road of national progress.
