The Winter Vault by Canadian woman writer Anne Michaels combines personal trauma and historical trauma, landscape and memory. The memory in the story, integrated with natural landscape and cultural landscape, makes landscape a site of political conflict and power contest. Meanwhile, the natural landscape as a dwelling place draws forth the concept of home space. Based on the analysis of landscape and memory, this paper points out that home consciousness manifested in this novel explores the plight of human beings in the home space, and probes into the possibilities of obtaining being-at-homeness in the world.
