It is more important to question the politics and mechanism of historical representation and discourse rather than explore how to approach the true history because historical memory is a cultural construction. The novel and movie Golden Mountain involve the representation of the same history, but they are subjected to different fields so as to exhibit diverse memorial politics. Being in the cross-cultural fields, oversea Chinese writers' creation will be affected by their personal habitus and places in the fields, so historical memory focuses on seeking the cultural root and identification. Film, being in the competition of capital and market, presents historical memory as a visual spectacle.
