The paper analyses the quality characters and key influencing factors of University-Industry Cooperation patents of '985 Engineering' Universities based on the hierarchical model (HLM) during the period of 1994-2008. By using the number of citing patent as the indicator of patent quality, the empirical analysis shows that patent quality displays high concentration with patentee and discipline attribution. From the perspective of influencing factors at the individual level, the more sectors a patent can be applied, patent authorized in the technical development areas, citing more literatures and patents as well as cooperating with enterprise, will help improve the quality of cooperation patent in 985 universities. At the organizational level, high quality patents are more prone to produce in science and engineering universities, Although there is no significant relationship between the economic development level, technological market vitality of the area where universities in and the quality of patents, a large scale of enterprises R&D funding the universities own also contributes to improve patent quality.
