The United States began to foster the pro - U. S. Ngo Dinh Diem regime in southern Vietnam for the sake of anti - Communism. However, Ngo's pro - American stand was simply for the consolidation of his own rule despite the intimate terms he was on with the U.S. So when the U.S. demanded Ugo for strategic reasons to carry on reform in line with the American interests, it naturally met with his refusal. This brought about contradictions between the U.S. and Ngo, and uhimately led to his death in a U. S. - supported military coup. And the end of Ogo's rule was the turning point of the Vietnam policy of the U.S. That is, from then on, the U.S. gradually showed itself on the stage from behind the scenes, and ultimately involved fully in the Vietnam War.
