Equality and Diversity: The Dialectics of the Value of Life

每一个人都渴望拥有出彩的人生,即创造和实现价值。如何才能拥有人生价值,也许需要每一个人去寻求去思考。只有在不断地追问中才能逐渐澄明。这或许根源于人生价值的内在矛盾性:既有平等性,又有差异性。每一个人作为人的体现和独一无二,不以各种外在的条件而有高低贵贱之分,都有同等的做人的权利,有同等的人格尊严,因此其存在的价值是平等的。另一方面,现实的人所具有的具体条件,使其与其他人存在种种差异,每一个人因其不同的作为而书写出不同的人生,从而具有不同的价值。肯定人的价值的平等性,人与人才能有一个交流、理解、合作和共处的基础。承认人的价值差异性,我们将意识到人生的责任,努力创造和提升自身价值,珍重自己独特的人生并尊重和容纳他人的人生。

Everyone longs for an amazing and conspicuous life,one of value creation and value realization. How one can possess of the value of life is a question deserving each individual＇s contemplations. Only through such constant contemplation and questioning can one get at a clear answer. This is perhaps rooted in the inherent contradiction of the value of life,the contradiction between equality and diversity. On the one hand,everyone is entitled to the same rights and benefits such as having the same human dignity,equality and value of existence irrespective of differences in external conditions and personal circumstances. On the other hand,the specific conditions of reality usually lead to different life paths chosen by different people and consequently,different life paths result in different life values. Acknowledging the equality of human value lays the foundation for mutual exchanges,understanding,cooperation and coexistence,while accepting the diversity of human value helps us realize the responsibilities of life,create and enhance our self-values,treasure our unique life patterns,and respect and accommodate other people＇s life choices.
