Robert Morrison and His Contributions to the Compilation of Chinese Textbooks and Dictionaries

缺少汉语学习教材和工具书一直以来困扰着来华学习汉语的西方人。有鉴于此,伦敦会来华传教士马礼逊一直非常注重汉语教材和词典的编纂工作。继1811年完成《通用汉言之法》之后,马礼逊又相继出版发行了包括《华英字典》在内的多部汉语词典和教材,为更多来华学习汉语的西方人提供了宝贵经验和帮助。

Lacking Chinese textbooks and dictionaries had always been the obstacles for learning the Chinese language to Westerners who came to China. Therefore, Robert Morrison, a missionary from the London Missionary Society to China, paid special attention to the compilation of Chinese textbooks and dictionaries. After completing A Grammar of the Chinese Language in 1811, Morrison continued to compile a series of Chinese textbooks and dictionaries, including A Dictionary of the Chinese Language, offering invaluable experience and help to more and more Westerners who wanted to learn Chinese.
