Their Softness and Adamancy——A Literary Specimen of Chinese Urban Gender Writing

Wang Anyi＇s writing of females is her important way of description of modern city. The balanced gender consciousness rooted in Chinese unique context of its society,history and culture.From observation and comparison of both sexes, the female idiosyncrasy was clarified and became the aesthetic consciousness in literary writings. The compatibility of urban space provides adequate rooms for female discourse. In her novels, Wang Anyi gave lives to series of urban females, which reflected and explored the core culture of modern city of Shanghai. Her characters differed from the traditional female images and overtook the theory of Androgyny both essentially and locally. ＂Balance of power＂ for two opposite genders was perfectly conveyed in Wang＇s writings, which revealed both the independence of female expressions in real life and the literary talents of female writers as well.
