As far as Wilde's cultivated detachment,James' s appreciation of point of view's otherness,Eliot's impersonality and Richards' s equilibrium of opposed impulses are concerned,Modernism is not characterized by decadence but by the mediation of aesthetics and ethics,and by ethical innovation in the course of reconciliation of ethics and the World.
