Paradigm and Philosophy of Hai Rui's Writing from The Analects of Confucius and Mencius

海瑞深受孔、孟思想影响,作文亦然。他主张人当涵养以合儒学之道,作文则以《论语》、《孟子》之文为范式,发乎作者本心,以道德为出发点,求善求真;作文当写作者之意,其意主要是自我体认的社会和人生道理,能够辅助儒学,经世致用,补益国家身心;作文当率性平易,不作酸文陈语,且重理而不重浮华夸饰。

Hai Rui was deeply influenced by the thoughts of Confucius and Mencius,so was his writing style.He insisted that people should improve the personal cultivation to comply with Confucianism. For writing,he believed that the writer should express the truth and goodness from his inner heart on the basis of morality with The Analects of Confucius and Mencius as the paradigm. Moreover,writing should reveal the writer＇s understanding of the society and life principles,which could facilitate Confucianism,and was practical and beneficial to the development of the country. Writing should be straightforward and concise,instead of being smarmy and obsolete,reflecting the essence of the world objectively while avoiding the rhetoric exaggeration.
