The Subject's Plight and Redemption—— Subjective construction in Silas Marner

运用拉康的主体构建理论对乔治·艾略特的小说《织工马南传》中马南的生命轨迹进行剖析。从他对宗教的迷狂,到物化成织虫的"物性"存在,再到最后"人性"的回归,探讨了主体在不同阶段是如何对自我进行认识和定义的,揭示了主体概念背后,想像关系中的虚幻镜像和象征关系中的象征语言是如何操纵着主体的命运的。

Silas Marner is one of George Eliot＇s most important works which have tried to demonstrate the protagonist＇s long and lonely search for a self. This paper applies Lacan＇s theory of subjective construction to analyze Marner＇s exploration for self and the construction of a subject. From his obsession with religion, and his objectification to the thawing of his frozen humanity, this paper seeks to identify the real forces in subjective construction. To lift the veil covering the subject, we can find out how the elements in the Imaginary and the Symbolic stage have manipulated and defined the subject.
