On the historical evolution and ethical implication of the internal contradiction of the idea of“Dominating Nature” ──Review of William Leiss' The Domintion of Nature

控制自然这一概念是自相矛盾的,它既是其进步性也是其退步性的根源。“控制自然”的观念导致的人与自然(环境)的一系列问题,其深刻的根源是人对人的控制。因而,控制自然与控制人这两方面在历史发展中存在着内在联系,控制自然只是控制人的表征,控制人才是控制自然的伦理本质。

The idea of “dominating nature” is self-contradictory, which is a source of both its advance and its retreat. A series of problems concerning man and nature (environment) can be caused by the idea of“dominating nature”,Fo r it results from a deeper-source ──control of human beings by human beings. Therefore, th ere is an internal link between dominating nature and dominating man in historic al development. Dominating nature is an external feature of dominating man ,whic h is the ethical essence of dominating nature.
