Is Chinese Language Convention Outdated in F-C Translation?——Problems and Solutions

长期以来,汉语体式是翻译语言的主流,是赢得汉语读者的重要手段,而当今汉语体式在外汉翻译中的应用空间越来越小。针对这一现象,对汉语体式加以定性,分析了它在翻译中的弊端,从功能角度探讨了它在翻译中的适应性问题,认为只要运用得当,它仍旧有着广泛的应用空间。

For a long time Chinese language convention has been widely used in F-C translation as it is regarded as a means to create a fluent translation to cater to Chinese readers of foreign literature. However, ever since the late 1980s such language convention has been disparaged and sparingly used in translation. In view of this fact the paper tries to define the quality of Chinese language convention, illustrate its drawbacks and discuss about its use in translation from the perspective of functionalism. It holds that there is much room for its application if we use it properly.
