In order to ensure the reliability of the reserve source of GMDSS in ship in distress and safety communication, the routine maintenance and inspection of the reserve source are very important. This paper conducts analysis on the requirement of the reserve source of GMDSS on the part of the international conventions, the methods for the routine maintenance and inspection of the reserve source and the calculation of the capacity of the reserve source in hope of providing assistance to the maintenance and inspection of the reserve source of GMDSS.
