Research on the Component Parts of Reading Motivation in Foreign Language Reading

利用Williams&Burden的外语学习动机理论框架探究发现,中国大学生外语阅读动机包括内外两个层面上的7种动机:内部因素主要有阅读好奇(阅读的内在兴趣)、成就阅读和阅读重要性(阅读的价值);外部因素主要有:阅读依从、阅读认可、阅读竞争和阅读的社会因素。阅读动机受外部因素影响的程度要比内部因素大。

Based on Williams ＆ Burden＇s （1997）theoretical framework of foreign language learning motivations, the component parts of foreign language reading motivation for Chinese college students have 7 motivations. On internal layer, there are ＂reading curiosity＂ （intrinsic interest）, ＂reading for grades＂ and ＂importance of reading＂; on external layer, there are ＂compliance＂, ＂recognition for reading＂, ＂competition in reading＂ and ＂,social reasons for reading＂. Chinese college students＇ foreign language reading motivation is much more influenced by external elements than internal ones.
