In this paper， the progress in research and application of biotechnology in the pulp and paper industry is introduced． The following aspects including lignin degradation enzymes， bio－pulping and bio－bleaching， solving the problems in pulp and paper progress by the use of enzymes or fungi，and environmental biotechnology are emphasized． Radical changes of pulp and paper making may take place due to the development and application of biotechnology．
