严羽认为宋诗笔力之劲健不减唐人,而气象之浑厚却差之甚远。他的复古诗学正在于提倡浑然之美,试图全面恢复汉魏盛唐诗以浑为美的诗学传统。在《沧浪诗话》中他提出了自己的诗美主张,即上乘诗作应具有古朴浑厚、整一无间的气象,妙悟浑成、兴发无痕的诗法和物我浑融、超形入神的意境。"妙悟""兴趣"与"入神"等诗学理论正是围绕他以浑为美的复古旨趣提出的。自严羽后,以浑论诗逐渐成为潮流,谢榛和王夫之等全面承袭并发展了严羽的浑然美学,并将其推向了巅峰。
